Continuous Underwriting: Why “Once a Year” is Broken

As I drove to work this week, a reminder popped up to tell me that I need to book in for a service. This made me think about how the insurance industry has treated cyber; you wouldn’t drive a car relying on a service certificate from 1995 to tell you if your brakes work today. Yet, for decades, that is exactly how the market has treated cyber risk: a static assessment, locked in a filing cabinet, valid for 12 months.

The problem isn’t just that the data gets old. The problem is that the traditional tools used to manage it are passive. They sit there, waiting for you to ask a question.

I am excited to say: “That changes now”.

We have been working on a new AI that moves us from “passive analysis” to “active collaboration.” We are moving from AI that just thinks, to AI that actively does.

This is something that will revolutionise the industry as a whole.

From “Read-Only” to “Active Agents”

Until now, most AI in insurance has operated in “read-only” mode. You ask it a question (“What is this client’s loss ratio?”), and it gives you an answer. It is essentially a glorified search engine.

But insurance work isn’t just about finding answers. It’s about taking action.

The industry would significantly benefit from purpose-built AI agents that actively participate in the workflow. They don’t just flag that a client’s risk score has dropped; they propose the concrete next step.

Imagine a system that doesn’t just tell you “This submission is missing data,” but actually drafts the email to the broker requesting the specific missing fields. Imagine an agent that doesn’t just say “Risk has increased,” but proactively drafts a coverage adjustment or a risk improvement plan for the underwriter to review.

This is the difference between ‘yet another’ dashboard and a teammate.

The End of “Renewal Shock”

For the broker, this shift to active, continuous underwriting kills the dreaded “renewal shock.”

Because our Cyber Security Expert agent is assessing risk posture 24/7—not just at inception—it can identify exposures as they happen. But crucially, because it is an active agent, it can recommend mitigation strategies in real-time.

This means you aren’t waiting until month 11 to find out your client has a vulnerability that will spike their premium. The work is being done continuously. The “heavy lifting” is automated, ensuring that when you do sit down for the renewal conversation, the file is already up to date, the gaps are identified, and the solutions are drafted.

Expertise is Built Over Years, Speed is Built in Seconds

Insurance expertise is built over years, but the work keeps getting faster.

This is the central tension felt by many within our industry. You cannot speed up the accumulation of wisdom, because that takes time. But you can speed up the mechanics of the work.

We have a definitive plan that bridges this gap. It allows the AI to handle the drafting, the triaging, and the proposing, while leaving the judgment, accountability, and control exactly where they belong: with people.

Governance: The Human is the Final Editor

I want to reassure Brokers: “Active AI” does not mean “Rogue AI.”

Every action proposed by our agents – whether it’s a pricing adjustment or a claims note – is governed by human approval. You retain full visibility into what the AI proposed and why.

We have built full auditability into the platform. You can see exactly which agent made a recommendation and which human expert approved it. It is transparent, controllable, and designed to support your judgment, not replace it.

Continuous underwriting requires continuous work. We have built the workforce to handle it, so you can focus on the relationship.

We call it: Omni AI.
